Every Dyson upright vacuum comes with what brush control, or the ability to turn your brush heads on and off. Many of the models have a button right next to the power switch above the canister and others have them right by the handle to make turning the brushes off more conveniently.
I seem to be running into the question a lot…
When should I turn the brushes off when vacuuming with my Dyson DC18, DC25, or [Insert Model Number Here].
Well the actual answer is pretty simple: whenever you want or feel it is necessary to protect a surface or when you want the brush to help you pick something up.
But, I am sure that is not the answer you are looking for so let’s look at why Dyson made it possible for you to turn off the brush.
The purpose behind turning off the brush is to protect surfaces that you wouldn’t want to use a brush on. The brush itself does not affect the suction power of the vacuum meaning that you that your DC18 or DC24 Ball or whatever model you have is still going to work the same as when the brush is on.
So what surfaces might you want to protect? Well most of the time I turn the brush off when I am vacuuming my hardwood floors and some of my harder rugs because I don’t want to leave any scratch marks on them, or take the chance of pulling out any threads that keep it bound together.
But I might suggest that you consider turning the brush off when you are also vacuuming your ceramic or laminate flooring. Like I mentioned before the vacuum will have the same amount of suction available as when the brushes are on, but now you won’t take the chances of leaving any unwanted wear and tear marks on your floor. Plus if you find that you have a mess that you need the brushes help with you can always turn in back on for a quick second before proceeding to the rest of the floor.
I hope that answers the question of Dyson DC18 Do I Turn The Brush Off When…?
