Dyson DC17 Clogged Hair

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

If you found this article chances are you are having trouble with your Dyson DC17 clogging with hair. Most of the time it is either in the brush head, or in the canister / cyclone that the clog will occur and although this isn’t a normal for everyday use it happens from time to time and you should not be discouraged as they are problems that are pretty easy to fix.

The Dyson motorized brush bar has a tendency to stop turning if too much hair gets caught up in the bar. Now don’t worry, your $500.00 vacuum isn’t broken. All you have to do is remove the clogged hair from your Dyson DC17′s brush and then press the reset button on the site of the vacuums head and you will be back up and running like new in moments. If you would like a better set of instructions be sure to read our article detailing what do to when your Dyson brush won’t turn.

The Canister on the other hand should not be getting clogged as Dyson guarantees that you will never lose suction with a vacuum that is equipped with the Dyson Root Cyclone Technology. But the problem is not the vacuum. Unfortunately is is probably the user. I am sorry, I know nobody likes to hear that, but the cyclone only works correctly when your canister isn’t overly full. And if you will refer to your manual that came with the vacuum it will show you the full line and if you are having clogging issues I would be willing to bet that you are well above it.

Either way improper use or improper functionality isn’t my concern, I am here to tell you how to fix it. First unplug your vacuum. Remove the Dyson DC17′s canister form the vacuum. Open the bottom of the canister over a garbage can allowing for for the loose contaminants to drop into the garbage. Remove the top lid from the canister exposing the hair clogged filter. Simple use your hands or a brush to remove any hair that may be blocking the are flow of the filter. Replace all of the parts and proceed as usual.

Although few problems will occur with the use of your Dyson DC17 such as dealing with clogged hair or a brush bar that won’t turn, I have yet to have any significant problems. I would suggest that if you are repetedly having issues with hair clogging that you contact the manufacturer with specific questions and problems.

How To Clean A Dyson Filter

Monday, February 16th, 2009

According to your Dyson’s manual and packaging it is recommended that you clean your filter once a month. But if you are like me you probably threw that stuff away without really paying to much attention on how to clean your Dyson filter. Well if that is the case then you are in luck because I have recreated the instructions for it.

How To Clean A Dyson Filter:

1. Always unplug your vacuum first.
2. Remove the canister from the vacuum.
3. Open the top lid on the canister, because that is where you will find the Dyson filter.
4. Remove the filter by pulling the mesh tab that that the company has attached fore removal.
5. Run water ( warm or cold ) through the filter in the direction that is shown on the filter itself.
6. Let the filter dry for 12-15 hours before replacing it in the vacuum.
7. Put the filter back in the canister.
8. Put the canister back on the vacuum.

Done and done. Now you know how to clean your Dyson filter, and it was pretty easy wasn’t it.

Why Clean your Dyson filter?

If your filter is too dirty you are going to be restricting the vacuums power by blocking it’s air ways. In order to keep your Dyson Vacuum running at it’s optimal performance I would follow the manufacturer’s suggestion and clean your Dyson filter once a month.

Dyson Low Reach Floor Tool Attachment

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

What is the Dyson Low Reach Floor Tool Attachment?

Vacuuming under your couch, bed, or an open bottom step can be laborious to say the least. You can get a friend or loved one to help you move a couch or bed, but I don’t care how many friends you have I doubt you are moving the steps without some major construction. The Dyson low reach floor tool is designed to make the process a whole lot easier. The attachment is a low profile vacuum head that can me attached to your Dyson to help you clean underneath the tough places your normal vacuum head can’t fit.

How to Use the Dyson Low Reach Floor Tool Attachment:

While you are doing your ordinary house cleaning it is easier to put on an attachment to complete the job than it is to stop and move a piece of furniture. With that in mind the engineers at Dyson made their low reach floor tool a simple snap on attachment. In order to use it just remove the collapsing / extending wand from your vacuum and snap the attachment into place at the end of the hose. Then continue to use you wand to sweep underneath your couch or coffee table. You don’t need any special tools to use the low reach floor attachment, and it works like any other piece of Dyson equipment. IE: the Dyson multi-angle brush or the Dyson mini turbine head.

Will The Low Reach Floor Tool Attachment Work With My Dyson?

Unfortunately like many of Dyson’s attachments the low reach floor tool is not a universal attachment. It is specifically designed to work with only 3 of their upright vacuums; the Dyson DC07, the Dyson DC14, and the Dyson DC17.

What attachments does Dyson offer?

I have written a few articles about some of Dyson’s other tools so be sure to check them out with the following links or head on over to Amazon from the images below to see what they offer from Dyson’s lineup.

What is The Dyson Ball Asthma & Allergy?

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

I have recently seen a lot of people searching for the term Dyson Ball Asthma so I wrote this article to clear up a little confusion some may be having about the Dyson Ball vacuums. The Dyson Ball technology is currently available on two of the Dyson upright vacuums; the Dyson DC24 and the Dyson DC25. These two vacuums are almost identical in looks and functionality, except the DC25 is much larger than the DC24 and it comes in two different model types as opposed to just the All Floors model that the DC24 comes in.

Unfortunately neither of these vacuums is actually built as an Asthma & Allergy model, meaning that in reality there is technically no Dyson Ball Asthma that many of you have been searching for. But don’t be discouraged.

If the primary focus of your vacuum cleaner is to reduce allergen and asthma irritants, you might want to continue your search for a Dyson Asthma & Allergy model, but you don’t actually have to.

Every Dyson upright vacuum cleaner is actually certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. This means that no matter which Dyson model you choose you will get the benefits of a vacuum that reduces asthma and allergy irritants.

So if you have your heart set on getting a Dyson Ball model feel reassured that even though the Dyson DC24 and DC25 don’t come specifically in a Dyson Ball Asthma & Allergy model type you will still be getting and seeing the results of an asthma and allergy friendly vacuum cleaner.

The Asthma & Allergy Model is currently available on the Dyson DC17.

Dyson DC17 Maintenance

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Today I have put together a little something about the types of maintenance that are involved with your Dyson upright vacuum cleaner. The DC17 is a popular model, so I thought I would focus on maintaining it, however the practices that follow will for the most part be the same for all Dyson vacuum cleaners.

I for some reason have a tendency to use cars and computers as my examples on in my articles so I will continue with the trend. When it comes to providing a routine maintenance schedule you are probably pretty used to it as you do it already for your car. You change the oil every 3,000 miles, the transmission fluid every 60,000 miles, and your tires when needed. Well it is time to treat your vacuum cleaner with the same respect.

When maintaining your Dyson DC17 you will want to create your own maintenance schedule, something you can realistically keep in order to ensure your Dyson is always performing at it’s best.

Here are my recommendations.

Empty the canister every time you vacuum. It isn’t an must do, but you don’t leave garbage in your car do you? If you keep the canister clean you will be at the ready any time you need it and you will be suspect to any clogging that may be occurring.

Wash your filter once a month. Again, this isn’t a must in fact Dyson recommends you do it every couple of months on their site, but I suggest you create a routine so you get used to keeping your filter clean. It is better to take the extra time and be ready with a clean filter when you need it rather than having to clean and dry the filter while you are rushed.

Remove any long hair from your brushes. Next time you clean out your hair brush do the same for your vacuum. It is having the same problem, take a second to clean it up so your brush can do its job.

Other maintenance might involve replacing a hose or buying a new filter, but outside of that you should remember that you have a 5 year warranty that covers all parts and labor on your Dyson upright vacuum cleaner. So don’t try to become a Dyson mechanic because you have a service department simply waiting to fix any problems that occur.

Here a More detailed instructions about cleaning your Dyson filter as well as removing and emptying the Dyson Canister.

Dyson DC17 vs. DC25

Dyson DC17 vs. Dyson DC 25

Before I dive into my assessment on which of the Dyson DC models is the better of the two I highly recommend you take some time to read the more detailed explanations of the individual vacuums that I have written about each model as they might be a better indicator of which vacuum is right for you.

More information on the Dyson DC17 and the Dyson DC25.

About the Dyson DC17 & DC25:

The Dyson DC17 & DC25 are both upright models in Dyson’s range of vacuum cleaners. Each vacuum is offered in both the Dyson Animal and the Dyson Asthma and Allergy styles. They are both also equipped with a life-time HEPA filter, finger tip brush control, extending wand, hygienic canister, 5 year warranty of parts and service, and an ergonomic handle for carrying.

What makes the two vacuum cleaners different is the new techonology that has been added the the DC25. The DC25 is equipped with the Dyson Ball technology that make a vacuum easy to move in it’s nature. Most vacuums are on a rigid frame that only allows for forward and backward movements, and the DC25 isn’t. The Dyson Ball lets you move in any direction by simply turning your wrist the direction that you want to go.

Dyson DC17 vs. Dyson DC25 Results:

The Dyson DC25 Ball vacuum cleaner is the cleaner that I would prefer to own because I love the Dyson Ball technology. Both vacuum cleaners come in Dyson Animal and Dyson Asthma and Allergy Models, Both are equipped with the Dyson Cyclone technology, and both have the hygienically easy to empty canister, meaning that the vacuums actually have very few differences in the way the operate and pick up dirt and dust.

The decision to go with the DC25 is then completely based on my personal enjoyment of the ball technology that makes maneuverability easy. I currently am using the Dyson DC24 in my home which is the DC25′s little brother. The DC24 is an exact replica of the DC25 but it is smaller in stature. With my experience using the ball I have found that is does everything that they say it does and anybody that has a tight space or a lot of furniture could really benefit from using it.

However choosing the right Dyson for you can be a difficult tasks as each model has great benefits and could possess the trait that you need, so I suggest you keep looking and maybe even check out our comparison of the DC18 Slim vs the DC25.

The Dyson DC17 Animal Doesn’t Bark Or Bite It Just Cleans

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Animal hair makes your house look dirty, dingy, and it just feels itchy and if you don’t stay on top with cleaning it up it will soon seem like your house is growing carpets from the walls inwards all by itself. But it isn’t completely your fault. Most vacuum cleaners weren’t made to specifically to pick up the hair that your pets leave behind when they are shedding their winter coats.

The Dyson DC17 Animal upright vacuum cleaner on the other hand was. This vacuum has what Dyson calls the mini turbine head that allows for deep cleaning those tough grooves to get all the hair other vacuums might just skim right over.

So What Makes the DC17 a great vacuum?

A strong source of suction that doesn’t bog down when you are picking up. The DC17 animal is built around a level 3 version of the cyclone technology that is guaranteed to never lose suction which is one of Dyson’s staples of business.

How many times have you been vacuuming up your living room in early spring after your pets have started to shed and had to stop 2 or 3 times to empty your vacuum because all that hair has clogged it up? Too many right. Well with the Dyson Animal vacuum you won’t have to worry about that anymore. When you pair the mini turbine head that Dyson uses on it’s Animal line of vacuums with the high performance cyclone you get a machine that can pick up everything from all kinds of surfaces with losing and of the precious power.

The mini turbine head is made to get the hair and dander out of the tough surfaces; those tight grooves that like to hold on to it and keep your house from being it’s cleanest. Forget about the frustrations of continually cleaning out your bag or canister and forget about missing the hairs that will leave you with the sniffles. The Dyson DC17 Animal is perfect for cleaning a house with pets.

Where can you get a DC17 Animal?

Pretty much anywhere Dysons are sold. I have seen them at Walmart, Target, and many other retailers, but if those shops aren’t for you Dyson gives you the option of buying straight from their website, or through other affiliate programs online.

I don’t have pets so I don’t need the Animal.

That is fine because Dyson also offers the Dyson DC17 Asthma and Allergy version of the vacuum that will provide all around better suction than other leading vacuums on the market. The DC17 Asthma and Allergy is the Animals sister and like it comes with high power and a 5 year warranty but isn’t specifically made for the mess that your pets leave behind. There are many Dyson upright vacuums to choose from, find the one that fits you.

Dyson DC17 Vacuum Asthma And Allergy Symptoms Begone

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

What makes Dyson vacuum cleaners different from any other brand of vacuum is the unique technology that makes them run. This upright vacuum uses Dyson’s patented cyclone technology to it’s fullest extent. The DC17 Asthma and Allergy is equipped with a level 3 version of the cyclone for a more advanced method of suction to nearly eliminate the dust and dirt that can cause the headaches, loss of breath, and nose and eye irritants that are commonly associated with asthma and allergies.

I am sure many of you are like me, although I hope not as it can be a huge inconvenience, and are allergic to just about everything. And I mean everything. Cat fur, dog fur, trees, leaves, pollens, hay fever, and the list goes on and on. Although you will never be able to eliminate all the allergens in the world you will be able to do one heck of a job of getting them out of your house with the Dyson DC17 Asthma and Allergy Vacuum.

A vacuum that sucks up dirt is great, but one that has the ability to reduce allergy and asthma irritants is amazing if you know how to take advantage of such a feature. So lets take a look at how I use my Dyson vacuum cleaner to keep my house as clean as possible.

Start with the simple clean. Use your Dyson vacuum the way it was meant to be used; on floors. At least once a week take your vacuum out from the cupboard, closet or whatever domicile you have given it and vacuum those floors as this will remove the dust and dirt before it is given a chance to get airborne and disturb your nose. When you are finished with your normal vacuum and are ready to clean it out make sure you don’t blow the dust back all over the place. The Dyson DC17‘s hygienic canister make cleaning easy but I would still suggest emptying in your outside garbage can as it would be pointless to release the dirt right back into your home.

Next extend the collapsible hose out and get your fan blades, the corners of the ceiling, and the corners of the floors. Dust bunnies, pet fur and dander often get pushed around by traffic, airflow, dusting, sweeping, and old crummier vacuums. The DC17 will pick up what your previous cleaning attempts left behind removing many of those hairballs that leave you with irritated eyes.

Finally, I suggest using your attachments. The Dyson DC17 is equipped with attachments not just to make the vacuum look pretty but to make it work for you. Use your attachments to clean off your mattress pads, and couch cushions. They probably don’t get cleaned to often so they could be carrying all kinds of dust and hairs that don’ just make your furniture look dingy but make it unhealthy for those that suffer from allergy symptoms.

In short the Dyson DC17 Asthma and Allergy picks up dusts and dirt that causes allergy irritants making your hose a cleaner and healthier place for you and your family. If you take the time to use your vacuum correctly it will take care of you.
