About The Dyson Ball
The Dyson Ball is not an improvement on suction or power like the Dyson Cyclone technology is, instead the ball is an improvement on usability.
Using a vacuum cleaner is easy. That is a fact that really can’t be argued by anybody. So when James Dyson and his group of engineers set out to make the upright vacuum even more convenient they had quite the task on hand.
A vacuum cleaner is a pretty basic machine; it has a handle on top of a canister or bag which sits on top of a head with 2-4 wheels. Well The Dyson Ball changes that up a bit by replacing the wheels with a ball to improve maneuverability.
How The Dyson Ball Works
Above I mentioned that most vacuum cleaners are sitting on 2-4 wheels. The reason this doesn’t work well is because the wheels don’t swivel meaning that you can only move in two directions; forward and backward. The Dyson Ball however allows for maximum maneuverability because it rotates in all directions meaning the you can move any way you want to.
I’ve taken a minute to draw a simple example about what I mean in the diagram below.

What it I am trying to illustrate above is that when you are boxed into a corner with a standard vacuum cleaner you must leave the area and then come at it again from a different direction in order to get rest of the surface. However when you are using the Dyson Ball you can simply change the vacuums direction my tilting you wrist and you can finish the job much more quickly and much easier.
Adding a technology like this to any other companies vacuums might slow them down or add weight because it makes for new problem. Where do you put the motor?
Well The Dyson Ball takes care of that as well as the ball itself house the motor which not only keeps any extra weight off, but lower the vacuums center of gravity adding even more maneuverability.
The History of The Dyson Ball
The idea for The Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner originated from one of James Dyson’s earlier inventions. In the late 1970′s Dyson invented a wheelbarrow known as the “Ball Barrow”.
The Ball barrow is very similar to the Dyson Ball upright vacuum in that it removes the use of a stationary wheel and replaces it with a ball that can easily be moved in any direction.
The ball barrow was one of Dyson’s earliest inventions and it has now dramatically affected the world of vacuum cleaners.
Where to find the Dyson Ball
The Dyson Ball Technology can be found on the Dyson DC24, The Dyson DC25 Animal, and the Dyson DC25 All floors models.
