The Dyson DC18 and DC24 didn’t originally come across in my mind as two vacuums that should rightfully be compared because of how truly different they are in their nature. The DC18 is a full sized upright vacuum while the DC24 is not so I thought that they might not make good competition for one another. But today I consider myself mistaken because although the two vacuums are very different in size the both share one huge selling point; they are both extremely light weight.
Before I get into any more comparisons of the two though I think we should take a short look at what each individual vacuum has to offer. So let’s begin.
The Dyson DC18:
The DC18 is known as the slim vacuum because it is a full upright vacuum cleaner that weighs in less than 16lbs which is very light for a full sized up upright. This vacuum comes with all of Dyson’s standard amenities including the lifetime HEPA filter, the expanding wand, the Dyson Cyclone Technology, push button brush control, and a 5 year warranty that covers parts and service.
The Dyson DC24:
The DC24 is known as the ball vacuum, or at least one of the ball vacuums, because it is one of a few models that is equipped with the new Dyson Ball Technology. However unlike the other models that carry the ball name the DC24 is about half their size and weighs in at a measly 11.65lbs. And as usual the DC24 is equipped with an extending wand, a Dyson Cyclone, a HEPA filter, brush control, and a 5 years warranty.
The Dyson DC18 vs. DC24
Comparing a full sized upright to one that isn’t didn’t make much sense to me before I started to look at the details. The DC24 is not a full size vacuum so I thought that the comparison would be like the much fabled apples and oranges comparison that I have heard so much about. However it holds one very similar feature to the DC18; it is extremely light weight. So that is where the focus of this comparison is going to lie. If you want a better comparison for the DC18 please check out my article Dyson DC18 Slim vs. DC25.
As I stated before with the DC18 being a larger vacuum the normal comparisons quickly become unfair, but when it comes to size and portability the DC24 Ball actually blows the DC18 away. The Dyson DC18 slim weighs what will seem like a heavy 16lbs compared to the Dyson DC24’s 12lbs. The adjustable height on the DC24 makes storage and carrying much simpler, and the Ball technology that is attached to the DC24 makes maneuvering while vacuuming a breeze compared to the DC18 as well.
So if you want to compare suction, canister size, ability to pick up different types of messes I would suggest looking at 2 full size vacuums, but if you are looking for the best vacuum for it’s size and weight I would suggest the DC24.
