If you found this article chances are you are having trouble with your Dyson DC17 clogging with hair. Most of the time it is either in the brush head, or in the canister / cyclone that the clog will occur and although this isn’t a normal for everyday use it happens from time to time and you should not be discouraged as they are problems that are pretty easy to fix.
The Dyson motorized brush bar has a tendency to stop turning if too much hair gets caught up in the bar. Now don’t worry, your $500.00 vacuum isn’t broken. All you have to do is remove the clogged hair from your Dyson DC17′s brush and then press the reset button on the site of the vacuums head and you will be back up and running like new in moments. If you would like a better set of instructions be sure to read our article detailing what do to when your Dyson brush won’t turn.
The Canister on the other hand should not be getting clogged as Dyson guarantees that you will never lose suction with a vacuum that is equipped with the Dyson Root Cyclone Technology. But the problem is not the vacuum. Unfortunately is is probably the user. I am sorry, I know nobody likes to hear that, but the cyclone only works correctly when your canister isn’t overly full. And if you will refer to your manual that came with the vacuum it will show you the full line and if you are having clogging issues I would be willing to bet that you are well above it.
Either way improper use or improper functionality isn’t my concern, I am here to tell you how to fix it. First unplug your vacuum. Remove the Dyson DC17′s canister form the vacuum. Open the bottom of the canister over a garbage can allowing for for the loose contaminants to drop into the garbage. Remove the top lid from the canister exposing the hair clogged filter. Simple use your hands or a brush to remove any hair that may be blocking the are flow of the filter. Replace all of the parts and proceed as usual.
Although few problems will occur with the use of your Dyson DC17 such as dealing with clogged hair or a brush bar that won’t turn, I have yet to have any significant problems. I would suggest that if you are repetedly having issues with hair clogging that you contact the manufacturer with specific questions and problems.

A problem I have run into a couple of times at home, generally when I am cleaning the bathroom, is that my Dyson brush won’t turn. First off I would say be sure to check that you haven’t pressed the button that turns the brush on and off, as silly as it may seem it may actually be the case. But if it isn’t follow the steps below to clean your brush and get it working right again.
First and foremost always unplug your Dyson before you start any sort of work on it. Next grab a seat on the floor, yeah park your butr on the floor it will be easier because you won’t be trying to lift your vacuum up to you. Now take a look at the brush bar to see how much hair and debris is caught in there. If there is very little then you probably don’t have much to worry about and you can press the brush reset bar on the side of the vacuums head and your problem with they Dyson brush not turning in fixed. However if you are like me and you find that your cat, dog, and wife’s hair are wound pretty tightly around the brush head you will need to take some time to pull in out of there as it is probably what is restricting the motorized brushes movements. Once you are finish you can also press the button on the side of the vacuums head. Now stand the vacuum and yourself back up and go plug it in. I bet that if you cleaned it out your Dyson brush will turn as normal.

According to your Dyson’s manual and packaging it is recommended that you clean your filter once a month. But if you are like me you probably threw that stuff away without really paying to much attention on how to clean your Dyson filter. Well if that is the case then you are in luck because I have recreated the instructions for it.
How To Clean A Dyson Filter:
1. Always unplug your vacuum first.
2. Remove the canister from the vacuum.
3. Open the top lid on the canister, because that is where you will find the Dyson filter.
4. Remove the filter by pulling the mesh tab that that the company has attached fore removal.
5. Run water ( warm or cold ) through the filter in the direction that is shown on the filter itself.
6. Let the filter dry for 12-15 hours before replacing it in the vacuum.
7. Put the filter back in the canister.
8. Put the canister back on the vacuum.
Done and done. Now you know how to clean your Dyson filter, and it was pretty easy wasn’t it.
Why Clean your Dyson filter?
If your filter is too dirty you are going to be restricting the vacuums power by blocking it’s air ways. In order to keep your Dyson Vacuum running at it’s optimal performance I would follow the manufacturer’s suggestion and clean your Dyson filter once a month.

Welcome to part 1 of my Dyson Vs. series. I have done a lot of Dyson Vs. Dyson comparisons, but I have left the rest of the market pretty much alone. Mainly because I wanted to keep the site focused on it’s primary subject. But after further consideration a Dyson site without a decent Dyson vs. Kirby, Dyson vs. Miele, or Dyson vs. Other article would just be lacking to say the least. So I decided to put procrastination aside and begin a series comparing Dysons to the rest of the vacuuming universe.
Dyson Vs. Kirby
If you own a home or rent a place you have probably run into the Kirby guys before. Yeah, at home door to door sales are generally annoying so i give Dyson the 1 up already because well their product sells itself without having to corner people in their living rooms with uncomfortable sales pitches and cheesy smiles.
The vacuums on the other hand compare a lot more evenly than either company would like to admit.
Both Dyson and Kirby vacuums are top of the line, they allow for great flexibility by having lots of attachments, easy cleanup and maintenance, offer allergy and asthma friendly solutions, have a great warranty and just work well. Kirby may have the upper hand for a second with their attachable floor buffer that Dyson can’t offer, but they soon lose it with the added costs of buying extra filters that are required to use in vacuum.
I have found Dyson’s more aesthetically pleasing than Kirbys, they are light and stowable, have the ball technology to offer better maneuverability, look much nicer that the aluminum can design Kirby has, and even at 500.00 are up to 700.00 cheaper than the Kirby model with all the accessories.
You may find this shocking coming from a site called Dyson info, but when it comes to Dyson vs. Kirby I do prefer the Dyson vacuum. I have however not actually owned a Kirby model, just sat through a demonstration or two so if you want a real comparison invite the Kirby people over and take a look at the results for yourself, but be warned they are good salesmen.

Cleaning Out Dyson Vacuums is really not a difficult task, nor is it all that time consuming to do so don’t put it off because you will only be making your vacuum less efficient to use.
On a Dyson vacuum cleaner there are very few removable parts that need to be cleaned meaning that keeping your vacuum in top shape should be pretty easy. Here is my schedule and suggestions for cleaning out your Dyson vacuum to keep it running great.
My Routine For Cleaning Out A Dyson Vacuum:
1. Empty your Dyson Canister every time you use it, or when the contaminants reach the full level. I know these seems like trouble but with the easy empty canister on all the Dyson upright models it won’t take more than a few seconds and it will help to ensure that you are always get the best suctions.
2. Remove hair from the brush head. Although infrequent you may find that your bathroom floor has more hair than your head and when your Dyson picks it all up it may cause the brush to get stuck once in a while.
3. Clean the HEPA Filter once a month. Schedule either the first or last day of the month as the day the you can wash and dry your filter. Your filter probably doesn’t need a full cleaning every month, but it is just good practice to form a routine and stick with it.
Do you need instructions for cleaning out a Dyson vacuum? If so you might want to take a look at my article cleaning your Dyson DC18 I know it may not be specific to your model, but you will find that the instructions are almost uniform for any Dyson upright vacuum as they are all equipped with the Dyson hygienic canister making cleanup of each model extremely simple.
When cleaning your Dyson accessories be sure to make sure your vacuum is unplugged and all parts are removed before from the upright itself as you will not want to get any water on the vacuum itself. Then rinse your plastic accessories with water and allow them to dry completely before reattaching them to your vacuum.

The Dyson DC25 Animal vacuum is a very strong contender in the upright vacuum cleaner market place because the technology the vacuum is equipped with is very unique. It is unique because the DC25 is one of 2 Dyson models built with the new Dyson Ball technology that no other vacuum company currently has a substitute for.
With this being said though it isn’t always true that unique means good, or at least good for you. That is why I definitely recommend taking your time with research and reading as many Dyson DC25 Animal Reviews as you can. I am sure it can be difficult at times to find a DC25 review so I have taken the time to find some that may be helpful to you and listed them below.
Of course I think you should get my opinion first so here are a few articles I have written that describe and compare the DC25 against other Dyson Models.

The Dyson Limited Company is in my opinion the best provider of upright vacuums in today’s marketplace. So in this article I just want to talk a little bit about why I think that the Dyson vacs are the best around.
Dyson Vacs Technology
Dyson vacuums are among the top sellers in the market because they are known to be work horses. It is the technology that is in them that allows them to do so much. Did you know that every Dyson vac is equipped with a Root Cyclone TM that guarantees you will never lose suction while vacuuming your floors? The Cyclone is just one of many technological devices that Dyson hold patents on, another is the Dyson Ball.
One of James Dyson’s earliest inventions was the ballbarrow, a wheelbarrow on a ball instead of a wheel; he designed the barrow with the intention of allowing for greater movement when carrying heavy loads. It wasn’t until recently that he thought to apply the technology to his uprights; which has absolutely changed the way the standard upright vacuum moves.
Dyson Vacs for Health
Cleaning your house to keep yourself healthy just makes sense, and yet so many vacuum cleaner companies don’t really do anything to make it easier on you. Dyson vacs on the other hand all comply with the standards set to meet the Allergy and Asthmas Associations program for certification. This means that not only do you pick the dust up off the floor, but the air that is cycled out of your vacuum is Asthma and Allergy friendly.
Dyson Vacs Warranty
I am one of the suckers that you see at Best Buy getting talked into purchasing the extending service plan because well I just like to feel secure in my purchase. However Dyson doesn’t require an extended service plan because right out of the box they provide you will a full 5 year warranty on all of the Dyson vacs parts and service. If that doesn’t make you feel secure I don’t know what will.
Dyson Vacs Price
You may be warranted to say the price of a Dyson vac is a little higher than it should be, but when compared to other home appliances, and other top of the line vacuums such as Kirby you will see that the Dyson’s are actually are bargain for what you get. I made around 300.00 for my DC24, but that will even out to be about 60.00 a year if it only last for the length of the warranty. So realistically speaking I think the price is justified for what you get.

Since the inception of Dyson info I have put most of my focus on the Dyson Upright vacuums and their parts and accessories. The time has come for me to switch gears a little bit and look at the uprights counterpart, AKA the Dyson canister vacuums.
The canister vacuum is great for those of us that have households that don’t have a ton of storage space and was actually one of the options I looked at before I bought my DC24. Basically a canister vacuum allows for all the same functionality of a full sized upright vacuum, but without the need to have a full sized closet to store one. The Dyson canister vacuums after all are known as “stowable” meaning they can fit almost anywhere you need to store them.
The Dyson Canister Vacuums aren’t nearly as popular as their upright models so like my site there haven’t been as many items produced for them. But that doesn’t mean that they aren’t any less functional that the uprights.
On Dyson’s site they are currently offering the Dyson DC21 as their primary canister vacuum but don’t be discouraged that you only have one to choose from because both past and future models such as the Dyson DC11 and the DC23 can be found on sale on different distributors which are both above and beyond par with other canister vacuums on the market.
The Dyson Canister Vacuum Models:
The Dyson DC11 Canister is the original canister vacuum from Dyson and while no longer sold directly from the company you can still find it for sale in refurbished formats and some stores and generally online at Amazon.
The Dyson DC21 is the current front runner for the canister product line from Dyson. This vacuum is compact and easily storable and has an amazing array of features and attachments to go with it. The features for this vacuum include a motorized brush bar that can be turned on and off with the tap of your toe, a Dyson Cyclone to guarantee that you never lose suction, and a lifetime HEPA filter.
The Dyson DC23 is the future of the canister models from Dyson. It is equipped with the level 3 Cyclone technology, the lifetime heap filter, the automatic brush bar, it is equipped with large wheels to make carrying the vacuum upstairs easier, and has a hygienic canister to keep your house asthma and allergy friendly.
My Opinion about the Dyson Canister vacuum cleaners:
They are perfect for a house that needs a place to keep a vacuum but doesn’t have a lot of space to do it. I prefer the use of a upright as it is much more convenient than a canister, but I would recommend them to anyone.

Wow, that is quite the mouthful for a vacuum name, but I guess it is fitting as this is quite the vacuum cleaner. Did you know that the DC07 is actually the one that started it all? Yep, that it is why it is called the Dyson Origin.
The Dyson DC07 came from Dyson in 6 different models, one of the most popular models being the Dyson Dc07 All Floors Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner that you most likely searched for to find this article.
So what’s in a name? Well Everything. Let’s take a minute to break down what this name actually means before we start looking at whether or not this vacuum would be right for you.
The Dyson DC07 All Floor Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner.
To make things easy let’s remove Dyson and upright vacuum cleaner, I am pretty sure if you are searching for those phrases then you know who Dyson is and what an upright vacuum cleaner is. DC07 is nothing more than a model number so it really doesn’t serve much purpose other than having a standard naming convention for the company. Now we move on to all floors, and yep it means exactly what you think it means: this vacuum is great no matter what type of surface you are using it on. You can be vacuuming hardwoods, tile, carpet, or rugs and this vacuum will get the job done right. However the cyclone is the cat’s pajamas as some might say, or the main feature as the less jive turkeys might say. The cyclone is Dyson’s patented sucking technology and is the reason Dyson is such a high value and high quality vacuum cleaner.
The Dyson Cyclone uses centrifugal force to push air in a cyclonic motion to make sure that you don’t get any loss of suction while your vacuums canister fills up.
So basically the Dyson DC07 All Floors Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner is a standard upright vacuum that has the ability to clean any surface in your house while using a cutting edge technology to guarantee you never get a clog stopping your progress.
The downside to the DC07 is that it is no longer an option to purchase the vacuum from Dyson as the model has long since been retired from their current catalog. However Dyson offers many great upright vacuums that I suggest you take a look at. Go up to our drop down menu and you will find a list of great Dyson upright vacuums.

What is the Dyson Low Reach Floor Tool Attachment?
Vacuuming under your couch, bed, or an open bottom step can be laborious to say the least. You can get a friend or loved one to help you move a couch or bed, but I don’t care how many friends you have I doubt you are moving the steps without some major construction. The Dyson low reach floor tool is designed to make the process a whole lot easier. The attachment is a low profile vacuum head that can me attached to your Dyson to help you clean underneath the tough places your normal vacuum head can’t fit.
How to Use the Dyson Low Reach Floor Tool Attachment:
While you are doing your ordinary house cleaning it is easier to put on an attachment to complete the job than it is to stop and move a piece of furniture. With that in mind the engineers at Dyson made their low reach floor tool a simple snap on attachment. In order to use it just remove the collapsing / extending wand from your vacuum and snap the attachment into place at the end of the hose. Then continue to use you wand to sweep underneath your couch or coffee table. You don’t need any special tools to use the low reach floor attachment, and it works like any other piece of Dyson equipment. IE: the Dyson multi-angle brush or the Dyson mini turbine head.
Will The Low Reach Floor Tool Attachment Work With My Dyson?
Unfortunately like many of Dyson’s attachments the low reach floor tool is not a universal attachment. It is specifically designed to work with only 3 of their upright vacuums; the Dyson DC07, the Dyson DC14, and the Dyson DC17.
What attachments does Dyson offer?
I have written a few articles about some of Dyson’s other tools so be sure to check them out with the following links or head on over to Amazon from the images below to see what they offer from Dyson’s lineup.
